We have very little to report today, as it was a day full of rest. My mom seemed to be working internally, rather than showing a lot of external activity. I think these are the hardest days for us, even though we know that they are probably the most beneficial for my mom. When we get to see new movements from her, we start to get greedy, but have to remind ourselves that the days of inactivity are probably when my mom is accomplishing the most.
We did have a particularly nice evening last night, just the four of us. We played music and had a mini physical therapy session together. There may have been some singing and dancing on our part, and I'm sure my mom's eyes were rolling under her lids! ;-) It was time that we all very much enjoyed together.
My mom is looking like herself these days, with beautiful pink lips, a perfect complexion, and often a partial smile. I think the hardest part of the day for her is when her tracheoscopy has to be cleaned. This is such an important thing to do for her, and the respiratory therapists here are excellent. It can be hard for all of us, however, because it often makes my mom cough a lot. Of course my mom has received an A+ in coughing from the respiratory therapists so far, which means that she will likely be easier to wean off of the trach once she is awake. This is just another item that we've added to the list of things we are proud of her for.
John has been checking in often and there is nothing we could keep from him if we tried! Perhaps we'll have more news to share soon. Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers. Please keep them coming.
Sarah
